Traditional teas in & Rye

Rye is famous for its tea rooms and traditional English afternoon teas.  Each tea room offers a different atmosphere.  Choose between real fires and beams or more contemporary surroundings to enjoy afternoon tea or morning coffee. Why not book an afternoon tea to celebrate your special occasions with family and friends? Many of the tea rooms offer separate function room which is ideal for clubs or group outings.

Eating Out in Rye

Whether you are after a light lunch or a substantial supper, you will find Rye crammed with places to satisfy every possible taste and craving. The sea may have shrunk away but seafood is high up on the list of specialities for many of our restaurants.

If you come to Rye in  February you will catch the Rye Scallops festival and throughout the year our restaurants are using local produce in any number of in foodie events throughout the town.

Pubs & Bars

Packed with bars and pubs, Rye has a good array of character filled taverns and nightspots.  See Pubs & Bars.

Whether you prefer to while away the evening next to a roaring fire nursing a fine wine, or live it up with a lively crowd, you will be spoilt for choice.  Explore the streets and you will find yourself irresistibly drawn towards cosy inns, music filled pubs and hotel bars.  Carry on hundreds of years of tradition where smugglers planned and pirates plotted and where Rye folk enjoyed a great night out.

Food Shops & Markets

A farmers market selling fresh local produce takes place every Wednesday from 10.00-12.00 at Strand Quay. The High Street is full of independent shops - organic butchers, greengrocers selling local produce, a Deli selling great local cheeses and specialities and two bakers offering freshly baked bread and cakes.

Local vineyards sell quality English wine and offer regular wine tastings.
